Abstract: |
A desk-based study of land proposed for a housing development identified that the proposal site lay close to the Roman Fosse Way, and to Romano-British settlements recorded to the south of Whitminster. Whitminster itself had early medieval origins although the first records of the village dated to the mid-13th century. Medieval and post-medieval finds had also been recorded close to the site, which early maps show to have been unoccupied pasture. The first recorded buildings on the site appeared to have been built in the early 19th century and demolished in the 1970's. [Au] |
