Abstract: |
A 40% coverage of non-ferrous metal detecting survey was carried out at the proposed\r\ndevelopment site of Tewitfield Marina. Initial examination of the results revealed that the majority of the finds were of modern origin. This suggested that the possible\r\npresence of metallic archaeological remains were beyond the depth of penetration of the\r\nmetal detector. The construction of the Lancaster Canal and Turnpike road, along with\r\nlocal industrial activity may have covered or removed archaeological deposits. A\r\ndetailed gradiometer survey may reveal possible archaeological features up to a depth of 1m. [Au(abr)] |
