Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during groundworks for construction of a new house. A foundation trench was opened by the groundwork contractors around the perimeter of the development footprint and did not record any significant archaeological features or finds. There was no evidence for activity on the site before the post-medieval period. Brick foundations and other remains could have been related to a building shown on the 1839 Tithe Map or a school demolished in the mid 19th century. A substantial post-medieval ditch was infilled and replaced by a brick drain, and by the 1860s was established as part of a large garden.[Au(abr)] |
