Abstract: |
The magnetometry survey was commissioned as part of the archaeological assessment for the proposed pipeline. Areas of high magnetic response, probably indicating building debris or made ground, were identified along the route of the proposed pipeline. Significantly, a circular feature was identified within the proposed compound area. The geophysical survey was limited to a 20m wide strip following the proposed route of the pipeline. This restriction on area curbed both the interpretation of magnetic anomalies recorded during the survey and an assessment of archaeological significance. In view of the results generated by this survey, it could not be said that the area had been adequately surveyed by geophysical prospection methods to confidently discount buried archaeological remains within the locality of the proposed pipeline. Finally, this report proposed recommendations concerning further archaeological evaluation. [Au(abr)] |
