Abstract: |
Topographical survey and historical cartographic research for the site revealed that the study area lay mainly within a wedge shaped field that remained open land until the latter part of the 20th century. Evidence for ridge and furrow earthworks was recorded, which lay within the East Field of Richmond as shown on a map of 1801, and was part of the open field system of cultivation in the medieval period.
