Abstract: |
Four evaluation trenches were mechanically excavated at the site, two of which measured 20m. in length, one of 17m. and the fourth 24m. in length. These were excavated in order to ascertain the presence/absence of buried remains and domestic debris associated with the medieval or early post-medieval settlement of Billingshurst. No such evidence was noted at the site with the exception of two sherds of medieval pottery, which were residual within a layer of former plough soil. The site had been disturbed by modern services and pits, which may have destroyed any earlier remains. [Au(adp)] |
