Abstract: |
An earthworks survey was carried out across the site which lay in part of the historic core of the medieval village and contained earthworks believed to be building platforms. The survey of the earthworks recorded two features, the most significant of which was a large partial raised rectangular platform (A), situated in the north-east part of the site, on a roughly north-west/south-east alignment. A smaller, heavily truncated and masked possible platform feature (B) was also recorded in the north-west of the site. The results of the survey strongly suggested the presence of archaeological features and deposits on the site. The certain presence of archaeological remains was, however, unproved without further investigation, and it was recommended that an archaeological watching brief be undertaken, when groundworks associated with the construction of a single-storey dwelling on the site commence.
