Abstract: |
An archaeological assessment was undertaken in advance of housing development on Roman Way, Long Melford. The site lies at the southern edge of a large Roman settlement, partial excavation of which, in an area immediately north of the present development, revealed 1st and 2nd century occupation. The assessment revealed a series of small ditches showing light Roman occupation on the periphery of a settlement and this is supported by the pottery evidence. Medieval and post-medieval tile fragments and other occupation debris were also recovered. [Au(abr)] |
