Abstract:
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in advance of a proposed residential development. The report incorporated the results of a subsequent watching brief during groundworks. The work provided evidence for the remains of waterfront occupation east of the High Street from the medieval period onwards. Evidence for structures, hearths, floors, buildings, jetties, wharfs, industrial activity were recorded, as well as pottery dating from the medieval period. Leather shoes and leather working from the medieval period were recorded. Environmental samples were taken and revealed information about the lifestyles and diets of the occupants throughout the medieval and post-medieval periods. [AIP]
