Abstract:
The watching brief confirmed that all trace of a previously recorded timber-framed house had been completely removed by an earlier development. A length of ditch was observed, which was associated with well preserved, waterlogged deposits, including some examples of worked wood and off-cuts of leather (probably from shoe making). This may have bounded the area previously occupied by a late medieval building, which once faced onto Station Street, and was infilled in the 18th century. Its origins were uncertain, but it remained possible that this was the remains of an earlier moat. This feature represented the earliest buried remains so far recorded in Bloxwich. [Au(abr)]
