Abstract: |
Wherever the main passed along the Hexham Road/Military Road, the refurbishment of the mains would potentially impact upon part of Hadrian's Wall. Similarly, spurs to the north and south of this line would inevitably cross elements of the Wall. The threat posed by the proposed works varied according to the type of operation intended, with pipe bursting posing particular problems since its effects could not be monitored above ground.
