Abstract: |
A rapid earthwork survey was undertaken of the villages in West Nottinghamshire between Edwinstowe in the north-west to Rempstone in the south, and comprising the historic wapentakes of Broxtowe, Thurgaton and Rushcliffe. The greatest number of sites were documented in areas of durable clay subsoil or with a long history of arable farming. Areas with few sites included the Sherwood Sandstone and perhaps unexpectedly the Coal Measures. [AIP] |
