Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken on the site of proposed redevelopment at St. Peter's church and identified a complex sequence of archaeological deposits mainly pertaining to post-medieval burials. 24 partial skeletons and over 2700 fragments of disarticulated bone were recovered from two small trenches. Many of the burials were noted within the degraded remains of wood coffins. Associated coffin furniture was also recovered from many of the graves. Below these graves an intriguing compact deposit was identified which may have represented part of an earlier structure, a levelling deposit or natural. [Au(adp)] |
