Abstract: |
The propOsed development site was shown to be situated in an archaeologically important area of Cirencester, lying close to the Bath Gate entrance to the Roman town and only a few metres from the Roman town wall. Excavation of a test-trench uncovered "black earth" deposits sealing Roman levels at a comparable depth and of a similar nature to the archaeological sequence established during previous excavations at the adjacent Burgess' Yard. No investigations were undertaken into the Roman deposits, beyond establishing the height and nature of the top of the Roman deposits. [Au(abr)] |
