Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of trial pits prior to the refurbishment of residential flats. The site lay within an archaeological priority area defining the Saxon settlement of Lundenwic. Bone fragments and two sherds of Saxon pottery were recovered. Deposits of a greenish brown silty clay which commonly characterised Lundenwic were noted, but due to the small area exposed it was not possible to distinguish whether or not these were the fill of archaeological features. A Victorian vault and a drain were also revealed. [AIP] |
