Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at the proposed site of a residential development. Archaeological remains of medieval date, including evidence of iron-working, had been recorded in the vicinity. During the evaluation, a post-medieval boundary ditch and foundations relating to Victorian houses were recorded. The ditch had later been recut on a larger scale and filled with slag, probably as a soakaway. The slag had derived from medieval iron-working. Artefacts recovered included a residual 13th-14th century pottery strap handle and a small amount of post-medieval pottery. [AIP] |
