Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken during topsoil stripping (c.3545sq m) across the site in order to discharge a planning condition attached to the planning consent for a new ACF Training Centre. From available information it appeared that the north-eastern portion of the site may have preserved the buried remains of the medieval and post-medieval settlement of Bramcote. A small assesmblage of undiagnostic struck flint and abraded modern pottery fragments were recovered, but these artefacts could not be related to any archaeological features. Recent activity at the site was noted as land drains, small pits and stakeholes which had no archaeological significance or potential. The report concluded that, on the basis of this exercise, no archaeological remains existed at the site and that no further archaeological work associated with the development would be warrented.
