Abstract: |
A desk-top study was undertaken of the site of a proposed market development on the site of Broad Street car park. The study indicted that whilst there was a well established history of occupation within this area (the site lay within the historic core of Sheffield, known to have been settled from the 11th Century, and the site of Sheffield Castle was partially preserved a short distance away under the current Castle Market), some considerable ground disturbance could be expected to have occured during the development of the area for industrial purposes in the 19th century. Locations for trial trenches for limited field evaluation were suggested in areas which had not been most disturbed. [Au(adp)] |
