Abstract: |
The excavation revealed several phases of activity from the 12th to the 19th century. The earliest features included pits, post holes, and a ditch of possible 12th/13th century date. Walls of mortared flint and chalk blocks were uncovered, adding to the evidence of an earlier excavation and providing more of the plan of Archbishop Arundel's 'great' 13th/14th century stable, a substantial rectangular stone building. The excavation also provided evidence of how the site developed in the post-medieval period. [Au(abr)] |
