Abstract: |
A desk-top assessment of the proposed site of a residential and commercial development was undertaken. A Roman cemetery lay in the area, and the route of a Roman road passed through. Early medieval glass beads had been found nearby, and medieval settlement had been documented. A ducking pond with possible medieval origins was marked within the area of the site on a map of 1746; a previous borehole had provided evidence for a pond-like feature. It was concluded that an archaeological evaluation should be carried out. [AIP] |
