Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment and field evaluation were conducted on an area of grounds around St Audry's Hospital which was proposed for development as housing. The map search provided no evidence for any structures on the proposed development site, other than those associated with the hospital itself, and that the layout of the field systems were likely to be unchanged since the medieval period. The evaluation revealed no evidence for any areas of archaeological significance within the development area. However, approximately one third of the proposed evaluation area was unavailable for investigation at that stage, therefore the potential for archaeological evidence being recovered from there should not be ruled out.
