Abstract: |
The evaluation comprised two trial trenches and was carried out in advance of a proposed redevelopment of the site for residential use. The site lay within the north-western corner of the Thetford Priory complex. A single pit of probable medieval date was identified and was probably used for localised mineral extraction. A large sherd of residual, possibly prehistoric pottery was recovered from the pit in addition to brick and tile. In Trench 1, a 20th century levelling layer sealed the natural chalk. A single residual medieval pottery sherd was recovered from the subsoil. [Au(adp)] |
