Abstract: |
A third trench was opened at a site where two trenches had been excavated during an evaluation. The new trench was located along the projected line of a ditch encountered earlier, within Trench 2. An east-west aligned shallow linear cut containing a single fragment of clay pipe was revealed. The cut was overlain by a layer of improved agricultural/garden soil containing occasional fragments of ceramic building material, coal and modern pottery. Cut into this layer was a pit. It was concluded that the evaluation trench had not revealed any features or deposits of archaeological significance. However, it was recommended that a watching brief should be carried out during construction works, in order to elucidate the line of the ditch seen within Trench 2. [Au(adp)] |
