Abstract: |
A desk-top assessment of a proposed development site was undertaken. Isolated prehistoric artefacts had been found in the vicinity, and the site lay close to the remains of a Roman fort, an amphitheatre and the city wall. Many Roman burials had been found nearby. The medieval manor of Finsbury lay to the north; excavations in the area had revealed reclamation dumps containing 14th-15th century pottery, leather and metalwork. An archaeological evaluation was recommended. [AIP] |
