Abstract: |
Reconstruction work on part of a shop front warranted a watching brief. Deposits revealed failed to produce any finds, but were similar to early medieval deposits found in adjacent areas. Timber framing and a jettied first floor were discovered behind brickwork when the shop front was removed, this indicated that the building originated from a period earlier than the 19th century.
