Abstract: |
Only two features of archaeological significace were found during the archaeological field evaluation. These comprised an undated ditch and a pit of medieval or later date. Even if one or both of the features were shown to be of medieval date, the paucity of finds and subsoil features indicated a low level of archaeological activity. The cartographic evidence implied that the site was only lightly used during the 19th century and this, along with the results of the field evaluation, seemed to suggest that the development proposal area lay beyond the periphery of the medieval settlement of East Ilsley.
