Abstract:
The watching brief was undertaken on a block of land in the centre of Barton-upon-Humber. The remains of terraced houses of 19th century date and a well were observed. Only one feature was seen to pre-date these, a large pit, probably a refuse type pit of possible medieval date, in the central part of the site. Although large areas of the site had clearly been truncated down to the level of natural in the past, the paucity of pre-19th century remains may have pointed towards low-density occupation of the site in the medieval and post-medieval periods.
