Abstract: |
The putative coal seam causing the linear anomaly running across the north-west of the site proved to be outcropping siltstone, and anomalies interpreted as possible adits perpendicular to this proved to be modern land drains. The putative enclosure identified by the geophysical survey also proved to be caused by modern land drains. The only potential significant archaeological features to be exposed during the evaluation were two undated parallel ditches located towards the north-west end of the site, tentatively interpreted here as medieval field boundary ditches.
