Abstract: |
Evaluation of the former Athelstan Cinema site was undertaken in two stages. Initially trenching encountered only post-medieval infill at safe working depths. Further trenching followed lowering of the centre of the site by machine. Post-medieval disturbance to depths in excess of two metres over much of the area was interpreted as a quarry. A limited area of medieval (late 13th- or 14th- century) floor make-up layer survived at the northern end of the site. [Au(abr)] |
