Abstract: |
A desk-based study of land proposed for residential development identified that the proposal area was occupied from at least the early 19th century, and possibly earlier, by a building known as Bishport Lodge or Bishopworth Lodge, which consisted of a dwelling and outbuildings together with a pond and adjoining paddock. The remains of the Lodge itself lay beneath the small car park presently on the site, and it was thought likely that these were disturbed during the construction of the road and car park. Root damage was also thought probable due to the presence of three large trees adjacent to the car park. The outbuilding to the west of the Lodge was thought to probably be located partly beneath the car park while the bungalow on the site overlay the other earlier strcuture, and again modern development had therefore probably greatly disturbed any earlier remains.
