Abstract: |
It was proposed to build an extension on the north face of St Peter's church, outside of the north door. A 10m long evaluation trench was excavated north-south through the middle of the proposed site. Grave cuts were located at between 700mm and 400mm below present churchyard level, these were sealed by a blanket of disturbed soil. The foundations of the north aisle wall were found to be modern masonry over a concrete foundation. A considerable amount of residual Roman material was identified during the evaluation. [Au(abr)] |
