Abstract: |
Excavation investigated the site of the central hearth and associated deposits within part of the former hall of the medieval hall house at Malthouse Farm. No trace of the hearth structure remained but its former position could be seen and underlying deposits were excavated down to undisturbed natural clay. Pottery of medieval date as well as animal bone and charcoal were found. Above the medieval deposits, evidence for a later timber floor was seen in the form of impressions of joists running across the area. Three post holes were also excavated; one of them was undated and the other two probably related to post-medieval re-building or repairs. [Au] |
