Abstract: |
The assessment of the site indicated that the surrounding area held a wealth of archaeological remains from the later prehistoric through to the medieval periods. The site was located within the grounds of Marylebone manor, which had probably been formed by the 11th century, its holdings being mentioned in the Domesday Book. The site was within an Area of Special Archaeological Priority and investigations in the vicinity had demonstrated that archaeological strata may have survived to a depth of between 1.8m and 2.5 metres, with localised cut features, including quarry pits, penetrating deeper.
