Abstract: |
The site lies in the historic core of Stockport; it does not contain any listed buildings or Scheduled Ancient Monuments. The scheme of the development involves the demolition of the old magistrate's court, with the retention of the facades, prior to converting them into retail establishments. The deepening of the basement may remove any surviving archaeological remains, as would development in the castle yard. It was recommended that the impact of the development be mitigated by way of a watching brief after undertaking a prior limited test pit evaluation. [Au(adp)] |
