Abstract: |
A third phase of evaluation, comprising the excavation of 71 sq. metres of trial trenches, was undertaken in advance of the redevelopment of the site. This work unfortunately produced no significant information to broaden the understanding of the village of Chesterton. The recorded post-medieval quarry pits and possible early 19th century garden features all appeared to be contemporary with the construction/life of the workhouse. They may well have truncated earlier activity although the presence of a very abraded sherd of 15th century pottery was the only evidence. [Au(adp)] |
