Abstract: |
The study indicated that the site lay within what was thought to be the core of the medieval town and close to what was thought to be the boundary of the late Saxon town. It clearly lay within an area of high archaeological potential in terms of providing detailed information on the origins, development and economic fortunes of the town. If this area of the site had conformed to a layout typical of many medieval towns, the most complex archaeological deposits were likely to lie immediately adjacent to the street frontage with the rear areas used for industrial/commercial activities or for rubbish disposal.
