Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the construction of a house. The site was located within the historic core of the village. Evidence relating to, probable, 17th century street frontage buildings was observed and recorded but not excavated as it lay beneath the base level of development. The remains of this building were sealed beneath terram and crushed granite on the route of the drive, in this way preserved in situ. In addition to the evidence of structures, several areas of 18th and 19th century dumping were noted and a cobbled surface, the possible remains of a field track, possibly of early 13th century date, were recorded.
