Abstract: |
Evaluation on a site once occupied by a mid-14th century builidng and close to the medieval centre of Bristol confirmed the presence of organic deposits, overlying alluvial silts and clays, within the proposed development area. Surviving sections of walling and drainage/sewerage system dating from the 13th century were identified. Post-medieval material within the drains indicated re-instatement in the 18th and 19th centuries when localised repairs and alterations were carried out. Brick and concrete built columns were subsequently inserted during the construction of multi-storey warehouses in the 19th century. [Auth abridged] |
