Abstract: |
Archaeological recording of part of the tower of St Mary's Church, Overton was made a component of conditions for planning permission for a new village hall. The work involved cutting a door through the north wall of the tower to connect the village hall with the church. There were no other structural alterations required beyond the removal of some internal plaster. The recording work suggested that most of the present structure was rebuilt from the ground upwards in 1908. Contemporary archives recorded that the old stonework was reused, but there was little of the earlier edifice beyond the arch between the tower and nave that survived in situ. [Au(abr)] |
