Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during refurbishment works at a site which had been occupied by two 18th century buildings, a lockhouse and an out-house, demolished following a fire in 1986. The buildings had pre-dated the lock, and may originally have been a mill or warehouse. During the watching brief, wall foundations associated with the lockhouse buildings were observed, and parts of a revetment of the River Kennet were recorded. This was constructed of reused 19th century broad gauge railway track. [Au(adp)] |
