Abstract: |
A watching brief was maintained during the construction of a gas pipeline from Horndon Gas Compound to Barking Power Station. Several features of archaeological interest were located during topsoil stripping and were excavated and recorded in advance of trenching. Features included a single cremation of probable prehistoric date, an isolated pit of Early Iron Age date containing large quantities of animal bone, and 36 linear features, mostly of either unknown or modern date, but with some of later prehistoric, medieval and post-medieval date. Extensive alluvial deposits were also revealed in and around Rainham Marshes. [Auths words] |
