Abstract: |
The evaluation was undertaken within the grounds of two industrial complexes. Some of the earliest of the dilapidated buildings of the Corporation Wharf were arguably of regional significance, if considered within the context of the built heritage of the Birmingham Canal Navigations and their association with the adjacent mid-19th century Corporation gas works. The rest of the Corporation Wharf complex was also unusual in that it was developed very late in the 19th century. The Crown Works, Algernon Street, represented a well preserved late-19th century purpose-built saddlery works. With the possible exception of a block of ruined houses at the junction of Green Lane and Blue Lane West, no buildings of pre-1870 date survived. [Au(abr)] |
