The abstract describing the content of the publication or report
Abstract:		 An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken prior to proposed residential development. The report concluded that the majority of the land within the proposed development had been disturbed from the late 18th century by intensive commercial and industrial activity. Land to the east of Kirkgate, prior to development, mainly comprised of fields or meadow. Development had extended eastwards with land to the west of the beck being partially developed between 1832 and 1852, and fully developed by 1891. Potential areas of medieval and post-medieval activity existed particularly in the northern part of the site, backed up by cartographic evidence from the 18th century. Medieval structures in the vicinity of the bridge were mentioned in manor court rolls. The proposed development area fell within designated Conservation Areas and contained a Listed Building, with more on the outer fringe of this area. [Au(adp)]
