Abstract: |
A watching brief was maintained during soil stripping operations for the Slimbridge Sewerage Improvement Scheme. The pipeline route passed through an area in which there was evidence of former settlement, trackways and field systems of possible medieval date, and traces of small rectangular enclosures had been identified to the south of the pipeline easement. A system of ridge and furrow, of possible medieval origin, was observed following the removal of topsoil, and fragments of animal bone, iron nails, one iron object of probable post-medieval origin, fragments of post-medieval pottery, one small strip of copper and three fragements of medieval pottery were recovered.
