Abstract: |
A fluxgate gradiometer survey was carried out on the site where it was proposed to develop a reedbed water treatment facility. An area of about 1.5ha was examined as a 50% sample of the development. The major feature detected by the geophysical survey comprised a complex network of sinuous palaeochannels. These structures were characterised by both positive and negative magnetic anomalies, suggesting that they were filled with clays and sands (relatively high magnetic susceptibility), and peats and chalk gravel (low susceptibility). These conclusions were in accord with the results of geotechnical soil sampling which recorded such sediment lithologies. Geophysical survey of an area north of the Blow Wells detected a buried ferrous pipe which probably drained water north towards Far Ings Lane. [Au(adp)] |
