Abstract:
Wooden posts with wattle woven between them was revealed during widening of the Tees to create a rowing course. The appearance of wattle and the lack of metal fittings, raised the possibility that the structure might have been of considerable age. However brick fragments ruled out the possibility that the structure predated the alteration of the course of the river in 1810, it was interesting that such ancient methods of construction were still in use at so late a date.
