Abstract: |
The work revealed that street front development may have come at a relatively late date in the development of medieval Salisbury. The earliest building on the site was of flint and chalk, and may have been a dovecote. A number of pits and hearths were excavated, although their purpose was unknown. This was followed by a period of construction of elaborate, well made stone buildings and some industrial activity. There was a demolition phase in the early post-medieval period. Further rebuilding occurred in the 18th century, and the site was given over to the Anchor brewery in the 19th century. [Au(adp)] |
