Abstract: |
Most of the new foundation trench lay within the depth of the foundations to the earlier extension dating from 1963. Therefore archaeological remains were not distrubed. A small engineering test pit cut through these former foundations and exposed two silt layers. These may have been fills of the former town ditch, although too little was exposed to be certain of this conclusion. The foundations of the main theatre building comprise a 1m thick layer of sandstone rubble. This has been cut away by a modern sewer along the south-east side of the building. [Au(abr)] |
