Abstract: |
A total of seven test pits were excavated in the area of the proposed Real Tennis Court site. Two of the test pits were located in the garden to the west of the standing Real Tennis court and five in the eastern part of the Palace Nursery Area. The evaluation revealed walls dating to the Tudor period which related to Henry VIII's Close Bowling Alley. The remains of a brick wall dating to the reign of Henry VIII, which ran approximately parallel to the moat, was also revealed. Deposits encountered in the test pits were either demolition layers of garden soils. [Au] |
