Abstract: |
Five trenches of varying size were excavated to evaluate geophysical anomalies on land proposed for a quarry extension. A sixth contol trench was located to the north of the geophysical survey area. Positive linear anomalies, corresponding to a former field layout as recorded on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map were shown to be small rock-cut ditches. No dating evidence was recovered. All other positive geophysical anomalies examined were shown to be natural hollows in the upper surface of the limestone bedrock. No archaeological features were identified in the control trench.
